MEANING: a love song about someone who endlessly searches for the person he fell in love with but can't find her anymore.
MUSICIANS: The original melodies and harmonies of this salsa tune were written by Sage Lewis. His friend down the block in Havana, Sekoue Romay Díaz, wrote lyrics and finished the song as a timba theme. The CalArts salsa band workshopped the song under the direction of David Roitstein. When Sekoue moved to Siberia, a nearby friend in Cayo Hueso, Maykel García, organized a "ventú" of musicians from Havana's timba circuit including band members from Paulito FG, Los Reyes del 23, and Haila to record the track.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Cayo Hueso (named after "Key West,"), a neighborhood of Centro Habana that has raised many of Cuba's best jazz musicians.
