NEIGHBORHOOD: A street that starts in Los Angeles and ends in Havana.

FICTION: In The Closest Farthest Away, this song gets composed on a laptop by two hiphop artists waiting for a bus in the streets of LA. The music magically transports the bus to the streets of Havana where Doble Filo finishes the song.

INFLUENCES: Black Star, Eric B. & Rakim, GangStarr, Los Aldeanos, Los Orishas, Afro-Cu-Hop.

OTHER: Like jazz, hip hop was once forbidden in Cuba as an American art form. However, after Harry Belafonte explained to Fidel Castro that real hip hop was a revolutionary anti-capitalist movement, the Cuban government started supporting the music form as the vanguard of the revolutionary voice of the people and hosted an important annual hiphop Festival in Havana called Agosto Negro that attracted US artists such as Mos Def, Common, The Roots, Dead Prez, Chuck D, Gil Scott-Heron, Tony Touch, Black Thought, and many others.

Sun risin', enterprisin'
Early bird gets the worm
Try to spit hot fire and the city it burns
Thought it was our turn
Time to turn the world on its axis
But the money's pushin' back man how can we crack this?
Try to make a scene and then they cut us back
But we're a whole generation man we will outlast
And you never gonna break us, united we stand
And it's a new day comin' and I'm a patient man.

Still waitin' on the world to change
Still hope it's our time to rearrange the world
Cuz we right here, we right here and we ain't goin' nowhere.

Wild and out the dead the shout the past to present six to seven ten to eleven and back to seven the cycles back and cycles heaven.
The repetition of yesterday's kitchen we're something to mention.
No escape, no escape for the wingless pigeons.
The back days become the next days the ways of the ancestors debts to be paid and so it's never broken the mother's always spoken the 360's livin' hard and the truth is always cloakin'.

Still waitin' on the world to change
Still hope it's my time to rearrange the world
Cuz we right here, we right here and we ain't goin' nowhere.
